 | | | | | Roofing FAQ: | | | | | How long will my roof take to complete?
404GotRoof: In most cases, 95% or more, we'll finish in the same day. Things such as weather may push back completion a little. If the roof is too large to complete in one day ie: commercial, we'll let you know up front the time frame we're dealing with.
What if there is rain in the forecast?
404GotRoof: We try to avoid the rain if at all possible and check the weather several time's a day to stay abreast of the situation. In rare instances, we've installed tarps onto roofs when we were faced with an unexpected rain shower, especially in the Spring and Summer when the weather is less predictable.
Will you damage the driveway with trucks and/or equipment?
404GotRoof: No, we use dumpsters and equipment that are designed for a residential environment. None of our trucks are heavy enough to damage a driveway
What about my homeowners association?
404GotRoof: Unless you decide on a shingle color that conflicts with the aesthetic theme of the neighborhood, it's a non-issue
What's the difference between a 20, 25 and 30yr shingle?
404GotRoof: Most homes in the Atlanta area have a 20yr shingle that lasts between 13 and 17 1/2 years in Georgia's weather and are often prone to getting algae stains which are detrimental to the health of the roof. The Architectural 25 and 30 year roofing systems are thicker, more wind resistant, and have the algae protection built in. They're marginally more expensive to install and most homeowners choose this especially if you to plan to stay in the home.
What if there is bad wood underneath the shingles?
404GotRoof: That would be called the "decking" and we replace it before we install a new roofing system. Your roof is usually made up of 4x8 sheets of OSB (oriented strand board) or plywood. As the roof ages, it may get water underneath the roofing in places, As a result, it gets wet and may start to rot .It needs to be replaced before the installation of the new roofing system. We can almost always tell how much, if any, decking is in need of replacement before we start a job and will be up front about the costs.
How do I know if I need to just repair the roof or have a complete new system installed?
404GotRoof: The age of the roof has much to do with the answer to this question. If the roof is nearing the end of it's service life, it's usually wiser to replace the entire roof at once rather than spending $350.00 to $1,000 for repair jobs that act as a temporary fix. Conversely, if the roof is relatively new and in good shape, we are fully capable of repairing anything on a roof. | | | | | |
